After months of anticipation, Mortal Kombat X comics have finally arrived!

Only the first digital chapter is available thus far [purchase], which Mortal Kombat Online will be reviewing here. For the full print issue, you'll have to hit up your local comic shop January 14th! If you haven't pre-ordered, make sure you show your interest for future issues!

DC Comics' first foray into the Mortal Kombat comics business has had a lot of time to build interest since it was announced at October's NYCC. If you download Chapter One looking for all the answers to your every question - you're not playing with fair expectations. That said, if you pay the 99c expecting some substantial answers, it may be the comic that comes up short of the title on the cover.

As seen in yesterday's preview; Kenshi takes centre stage in a cold opening set in the Himalayan wilderness "many years ago". It's an action sequence that would've played better in a pre-credits crash for television, but where it isn't informative in detail, it is very indicative of the type of read that follows.

The beats are kept remarkably simple, as if designed to fit into 16-bit text on a home cartridge, rather than a 40 page comic: Kenshi has been working undercover with the Red Dragon Clan [for the Outerworld Investigation Agency, we're forced to presume]; his cover was blown; Sonya Blade called to tell him he has a child in Thailand; the blind sword saint was too late to rescue mother from the Red Dragon; he has the boy and is on the run.

The preview comes with a fresh Q&A with writer Shawn Kittelsen, who's promising all the right things for his prequel tie-in to the upcoming video game. What does that all amount to? NetherRealm Studios' mobile development is going from strength to strength -- the recent announcement of January's WWE Immortals adding to a resume anchored by Injustice: Gods Among Us.

The DC Comics superhero app has continued to receive extensive support, adding regular content updates, special events and a major overhaul that introduced multi-player in April. A hack of the most recent December update has revealed new characters on the way! WasdUK reports a Mortal Kombat X Scorpion is among the looming additions uncovered by industrious users!

We're less than one month away from Mortal Kombat X #1 -- the first issue of Mortal Kombat's big return to regular comics under DC Entertainment! That hasn't stopped NetherRealm Studios jumping ahead to preview issue #4 cover art by superstar artist Ivan Reis!

DC Comics' digital-first Mortal Kombat X series hasn't even begun publication yet - but it's already been bumped to a twice-monthly publishing schedule, starting February!

Solicitations for DC's Beyond The New 52 block reveals print versions of the 2015 series will begin the increased schedule with issues #2 & #3. This follows the strategy of NetherRealm game tie-in Injustice: Gods Among us -- an alternate DC Universe series that instantly established new benchmarks for digital-first publications!

The NYCC announcement of DC Comics' 2015 Mortal Kombat X weekly continues to dominate the news as writer Shawn Kittelsen talks up his first major series. Kittelsen has already shared a great deal of pre-release info, and continues to speak with major outlets, including Comic Book Resources and Comic Vine [video below].

Mortal Kombat is coming back to comic books! DC Entertainment announced the video game tie-in at New York Comic Con - introducing comics newcomer Shawn Kittelsen as writer of the digital-first series.

Kittelsen transitions from his video game role as DC Entertainment Creative Executive -- which included liaison work on Injustice: Gods Among Us -- to assume the writer's chair in his first major work. DC All Access talked to Kittelsen on the floor, revealing unseen artwork from the 2015 series.

Mortal Kombat Online has espoused the importance of comics to Mortal Kombat for quite some time - all the while knowing there may just be something in the pipeline. The long wait finally ends with DC Comics announcing a brand new Mortal Kombat X series at this weekend's New York Comic Con!

It was the bombshell that rocked us in April 2008. Revealed in a Mortal Kombat Online exclusive: Mortal Kombat versus DC Universe turned the core fighting franchise on its head -- introducing MK's first all-out crossover with another franchise! It brought an end to then-rampant sequel speculation, and created an indelible link with the superheroes that starred in 2013's Injustice: Gods Among Us.

Six years on from that memorable first image [pictured right] - we are again anticipating what might be announced when a mystery countdown ends June 2nd. Sequel rumors persist for both Mortal Kombat and Injustice -- leading to speculation of overlapping, or simultaneous development cycles.

Always up for a lark: NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon has thrown "Injustice Too" into the collective vernacular. The overseer of both MK and Injustice is probably just engaging in a little harmless subterfuge, but it alludes to a hypothetical outcome few have even dared to consider.

The next generation is changing the game and we think there's a concept that would make use of dual franchise development. An idea that would land Warner Brothers on the cutting edge of attempting to please everybody. Before we get to that, some history:
